In music festivals, art exhibitions, and temporary shops, colorful translucent PVC tarpaulins are spliced together to form a tensioned film structure, creating a public space for shade and shelter from the sun and rain. Due to the fact that tarpaulins can be heat sealed and welded, designers are able to create curved shapes. Some environmental artists clean recycled tarpaulins, cut and sew them into large murals or collages, giving the waste new aesthetic value.
